Welcome To Eklavya Model Residential Schools, Gangyap

About EMRS, Gangyap

Located at almost 6,800 feet high at the foot hills of Mount Narsing, above the sacred hill of Tashiding in West Sikkim is Eklavya Model Residential School in a tiny hamlet called Gangyap.

Established in 2007 with hardly 50 students as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to educate the tribal students of the West District … the school has now completed 17 years and has an enrolment of about 425 students.

The school is now looked after by NESTS ( National Educational Society for Tribal Students) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

The school admits mostly 1st generation tribal students from far flung tribal pockets starting at class six through EMRSST (test) and runs till class twelve.

It is affiliated to the CBSE.

EMRS Gangyap has already carved a name for herself when it comes to basketball as the Girls team are CBSE National Champions twice (2011 Tamil Nadu & 2013 Agra), 12 consecutive CBSE North East Region Champions since 2010, and 10 consecutive Sikkim State Champions since 2008). Both the boys & girls are also EMRS National Champions at the EMRS National Games in 2018 ( Telangana) & 2019 ( Bhopal).

The former captain Nima Doma Bhutia has already represented India in  the National team for the Pre-Olympic Qualifiers at Kuala Lumpur in 2019.

EMRS staged its first musical production ‘Across The Universe’ in 2013 … a musical love story around the songs of the Beatles … It was staged in Gyalshing, Namchi, Gangtok & Kalimpong. Besides that, EMRS has staged ‘It’s Only Love’ in 2016 & ‘All Shook Up’ in 2018.

EMRS has excelled in the CBSE Board Examinations as well … So far 12 students have passed with a CGPA of 10.0 in the CBSE Class X Boards and recorded a 100% success result.

In the CBSE class XII Boards … over 250 students of the first 9 batches have graduated from school … all with astounding results … Over 30 % of these students have passed with 90% and above (Humanities & Science) while the rest have scored between 70% - 89%. The lowest percentage being 60%.

At the local level the school is looked after by the State Society of Sikkim, Social Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim.
